Vivid Sydney 2023 Opening – Lights On

FCA members was invited at the official opening of Vivid Sydney on 26 May 2023 at the Quay Restaurant, Overseas Passenger Terminal, the Rocks, Sydney.

FCA Members took a front row seat for the Vivid Sydney Lights On on Friday, May 26. Cordially invited by Destination NSW, Foreign Correspondents enjoyed a special cocktail event while admiring the works of late Australian artist John Olsen projected onto the Sydney Opera House for Lighting of the Sails.

This year’s creative direction for the festival was “Vivid Sydney, Naturally”, focussing on the relationship with the natural environment. There were more than 300 events from 26 May to 17 June 2023, across the pillars of Light, Music, Ideas and Food.

Vivid Sydney 2023 celebrations kicked off with First Light, a vibrant Welcome to Country that honoured Australia’s First People…celebrating the Gadigal People and Country – a powerful dance performance by NAISDA students.

The Vivid Sydney Light Walk stretched continuously for 8.5km linking the Sydney Opera House to Central Station, with 57 free light art installations and 3D projections featuring 32 NSW based artists and collaborators.
Vivid Music featured 67 gigs and concerts at 14 venues across the CBD, with performances from local and international acts.

Vivid Sydney plays a key role in supporting the NSW visitor economy and promoting the creative industries, both nationally and internationally.
Now in its 13th edition, the festival is owned, managed and produced by Destination NSW.
