FCA Social – Spit to Manly Walk
Words – Barbara Barkheusen and Raj Suri
It is time for wearing the walking shoes for a classic Sydney trek. You are warmly invited to a walk from the Spit Bridge to Manly on Saturday, July 25, featuring a scenic pit stop for some homemade treats.
Spanning a scenic 10 kilometres along Sydney’s stunning Lower North Shore, this premier coastal trail takes roughly 3 to 4.5 hours to complete, treating walkers to mix of bushland, hidden beaches, and harbour views.

This final stretch of the modern walkway seamlessly integrates with local history, guiding you directly past the historic Jenkins Road heritage plaque. This marker commemorates the early 1800s pathway built by pioneer James Jenkins to haul agricultural produce from northern beachfront farms down to a shipping landing at North Harbour, where a clean, freshwater stream provided a vital watering station for his working horses and oxen. Today, these two landmarks offer the perfect blend of a rewarding fitness milestone and a fascinating step back into Sydney’s pioneering past.
