FCA Briefing – Brisbane Olympics: The Fight for Barrambin/Victoria Park

The proposed Brisbane 2032 Olympic stadium precinct has triggered a massive debate in Queensland, pitting major sporting infrastructure plans against a heritage-listed inner-city park and a sacred First Nations site.

With the Queensland Government planning to build two stadiums, warm-up tracks, and an entertainment precinct on the land—and with restricted access and site clearing looming—FCA hosted an exclusive online briefing for members on May 29, 2026, featuring two key voices leading the opposition to the development.

Speakers:

  • Andrea Lunt – Journalist and steering committee member of the volunteer Save Victoria Park group, who provided an overview of the proposed stadium precinct, the policy process so far, and the escalating community response.
  • Gaja Kerry Charlton – Yagarabul elder, Traditional Custodian, and founding member of the Yagara Magandjin Aboriginal Corporation. Gaja Kerry discussed the deep cultural significance of the site—which has been a place of gathering and ceremony for thousands of years—and outlined her federal Section 10 ATSIHP Act application to secure protection for Barrambin.
