FCA Briefing by Sanaka Samarasinha, UN Resident Coordinator

Words – April Pressler

On Tuesday 15 February 2022, the Fiji-based UN Resident Coordinator Sanaka Samarasinha provided a briefing for FCA members via Zoom. It was exactly one month since the sudden, destructive undersea volcano and subsequent tsunami caused havoc for Tonga and the region. Mr Samarasinha updated members on the effects of the devastating natural disaster that wiped out many community structures of the island state, and he also provided information on provision of UN support. Mr Samarasinha’s multi-country Pacific responsibilities include Tonga, besides Fiji and another eight Pacific Island Countries: Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall islands, Nauru, Palau, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
