Professorial Fellow at the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre and former Australian Foreign Minister.
For the first time, an Australian Foreign Minister revealed how foreign policy is made. From his dinner conversations with Henry Kissinger and Rupert Murdoch to his budding partnership with Hillary Clinton and debate within the Gillard government over Palestinian status, former Foreign Minister Bob Carr lifted the veil on Australia’s diplomatic efforts. Bob Carr discussed Australia’s place in Asia, how our former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was perceived in China and Australia’s increasing closeness with ASEAN nations, in particular the Indonesian’s Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa. For 18 months he kept a diary documenting his time in federal politics and has published this as Diary of a Foreign Minister.
